A series identifies a product family. It rarely captures every option needed to approve a direct replacement.

Differences hidden in suffixes
- Valve spool and centering
- Coil voltage and connector
- Pump control and rotation
- Shaft, flange and port layout
- Seals, temperature and special revisions
Risks of selecting by family name
- Incorrect machine function
- Mechanical installation conflict
- Electrical damage or connector mismatch
- Pressure or flow outside the rating
- Short service life or unsafe commissioning
Safer workflow
- Capture the complete original code
- Compare technical data line by line
- List all known differences
- Confirm dimensions and application
- Use a sample or controlled test when appropriate
Interchangeability risk ladder
| Level | Evidence state | Permitted wording |
|---|---|---|
| Identification lead | Family or partial code only | Possible family; more evidence required |
| Conditional option | Key parameters align but one or more interfaces remain open | Candidate subject to the listed confirmations |
| Documented match | Relevant function, ratings, interfaces and application have been compared | Matched for the recorded application and conditions |
| Order-approved item | Exact supplied model, differences and acceptance evidence are attached to the quotation | Approved against that quotation—not every variant or machine |
Three examples of a suffix changing the result
- A valve coil voltage may match while the spool center condition sends flow through a different path.
- A piston pump may share displacement and flange but use the opposite rotation or a different pressure-control response.
- A motor may fit the pilot and shaft while requiring a different brake, flushing or case-drain arrangement.
Compatibility language should become more specific as evidence improves. It should never become broader than the machine and operating conditions actually reviewed.
