When an original route may be preferred
- Safety-critical or regulated equipment requires the original specification
- The machine builder controls the approved-parts list
- Electronic integration or proprietary calibration cannot be verified
- Downtime risk outweighs the potential commercial saving
- Traceability or manufacturer warranty is contractually required
When an aftermarket route may be considered
- The complete original code and interfaces are available
- The application limits and duty cycle are known
- The proposed supplier can provide relevant technical and inspection evidence
- Known differences can be accepted before purchase
- A sample or controlled installation can be used for higher-risk items
What a dual-route quotation should show
- Original reference and requested quantity
- Route label: original, independent direct-fit or functional alternative
- Evidence available and evidence still missing
- Known differences and customer confirmations
- MOQ, lead time, inspection, packing and warranty by route
Claims to reject
- “OEM quality” without a defined manufacturer or evidence
- “100% compatible” based only on visual similarity
- “Original” without traceability or a clear supply route
- A universal warranty statement that conflicts with the quotation
- A price comparison that hides different scope or included accessories
